About Ibn Abi Shaybah(R.A)
Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah (Arabic: عصنف ابن ابي شىيبه) is one of the well-known compilations of hadith (narrations) of Muhammad, his predecessors, and companions.These prophetic traditions, or hadiths, were collected by the Muslim scholar Ibn Abi Shaybah (159H-235H).
It is one of the most extensive compilations of hadiths, including more than thirty-seven thousand (37,000) hadiths. The aim of these writers was to collect whatever they found, not to extract the best, refine it, or make it available for use. One of Ibn Abi Shaybah's aims was to refute the jurist Abu Hanifa with an entire chapter in his compilation attacking his views.
Shaybah narrated reports from the predecessors about each subject area, including controversial topics of discussion among Muslims such as the Battle of Siffin, and the Battle of the Camel, It includes Ahaadeeth classified as sahīh (sound), maroon (attributed to Muhammad), mawqoof (attributed to the Companions) and munqaṭiʻ (with discontinuity in the chain of transmission).
Multiple manuscripts survive (some printed recently in Delhi and volumes of much earlier manuscripts also exist) and some may differ.
